Adams was raised in Italy and her father was in the U.S. military and she was raised within Castle Rock Colorado as one of seven kids. The actress began acting and dancing professionally around the middle of the 1990s, with Boulder Dinner Theatre, and after that, at the Country Dinner Playhouse. Later she was in Minnesota in a small local theater, she was selected to play a role in an unrealized documentary film about beauty pageants titled Drop Dead Gorgeous. Then, in Los Angeles, she pursued acting after her debut film in which she played an uneasy but fun contestant. She was the wife of actor Tony Curtis from June 1951 until September 1962, and was the mother of Kelly Curtis and Jamie Lee Curtis. Her film career started in the late 1940s when she was accepted by MGM. Her name was discovered by Norma Shearer. Through the years that followed, she appeared in many well-known films like Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960) as well as Living It Up by Martin and Lewis (a 1954 film).
